Illustrations
Most of these pictures ran as story illustrations on the inside pages of magazines, though the George W. Bush caricature ended up on the cover of the Independent Weekly. I've included some of those pages in their entirely to show how the art looked in it natural habitat. The "Riddums" column by Willie Painter was a regular feature in the Urban Hiker magazine, which a friend of mine and I put out from 1999 to 2004 in the Durham-Raleigh-Chapel Hill area. In addition to being Hiker's chief illustrator, I was also its chief editor, researcher, layout man, ad designer, headline writer and proofreader. We had a small staff. .
